You are 18 or older and want practical tools for your anger.
Anger Management Counseling
Anger management counseling that helps you understand your triggers and respond with control, in Ashland, VA and online across Virginia.
Anger is not the enemy. What it costs you is the problem.
What Is Anger Management Counseling?
Anger management counseling is evidence-based care that helps you recognize what sets off your anger and build skills to respond instead of react. I provide it in Ashland, VA and online across Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, Florida, Washington DC, and South Carolina.
I am Dr. Chris Coleman, a licensed counselor with more than 20 years helping people with anger, substance use, and co-occurring concerns. Control is the goal. You do not need to be of the Christian faith to be here. Faith is offered, never forced.
A Note on Court-Ordered Anger Management
I provide anger management counseling, not court-ordered classes. I do not complete court paperwork or issue certificates of completion. If your requirement is only to satisfy a court or attorney, I will refer you to a program that does that.
Does This Sound Like You?
- Small things set you off, and the reaction feels bigger than the moment
- You have said or done things in anger that you regret
- People walk on eggshells around you, and you feel it
- The anger is tangled up with stress, old pain, or substance use
- You want control back, not to feel like a bystander to your own reactions
What I Help With
Reactive anger. The quick fuse that goes off before you can think.
Resentment and slow-burn anger. The anger that builds quietly and leaks out sideways.
Anger and relationships. Repair with the people your anger has hurt.
Anger and substance use. When drinking or drugs fuel the anger, both are addressed. See Substance Abuse Counseling.
Anger after trauma. Anger that traces back to old wounds. See Trauma Therapy.
Stress and irritability. Everyday overwhelm that keeps you on edge.
How I Approach Your Care
Understand the trigger. It starts with what sets the anger off and what it is protecting.
Practical skills. I use cognitive behavioral and reality-based approaches to build real tools you can use in the moment.
The whole picture. Anger rarely travels alone, so stress, mood, trauma, and substance use are part of the work.
Faith welcomed, not forced. Biblical principles are part of my approach when you want them, and never when you do not.
Honest and direct, with compassion. I will tell you the truth about what your anger is costing, and walk it with you.
