You need a DUI or substance use assessment from a licensed provider.
DUI/DWI VASAP & DOT Assessments
Substance use and DUI assessments, plus DOT Substance Abuse Professional evaluations, with a licensed provider.
You leave with a clear recommendation. That is the goal.
What Is a DUI Assessment?
A DUI assessment is a professional substance use evaluation that reviews your history with alcohol and drugs and recommends the right level of care. I provide DUI and substance use assessments in Ashland, VA and online across Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, Florida, Washington DC, and South Carolina.
I am Dr. Chris Coleman, a licensed substance abuse treatment provider and a DOT-qualified Substance Abuse Professional, with more than 20 years in addiction assessment and treatment. The assessment is evidence-based and biopsychosocial. You leave with a clear recommendation. That is the goal. I keep it honest. You do not need to be of the Christian faith to be here, and faith is offered, never forced.
What I Do and Do Not Do
I provide assessments and DOT SAP evaluations, and I give you a clear written recommendation. I do not testify, appear in court, or complete evaluations to satisfy a court, judge, or attorney. I do not provide fit-for-duty, return-to-work, medical, FMLA, workers compensation, military, or SSI or SSDI evaluations. If your case is driven only by court or attorney requirements, I will refer you to a provider who does that work.

DUI Assessment & DOT SAP FAQs
What is a DOT SAP evaluation?
A DOT SAP evaluation is a face-to-face assessment for safety-sensitive employees who violated Department of Transportation drug or alcohol rules. As a qualified Substance Abuse Professional, I evaluate you and recommend the education or treatment the return-to-duty process requires.
Do I need a substance use assessment after a DUI?
Often, yes. Courts, employers, and licensing boards frequently ask for one after a DUI. I provide the assessment and a written recommendation, though I do not appear in court or complete court-satisfaction paperwork.
What happens in a DUI assessment?
You complete an evidence-based, biopsychosocial assessment of your alcohol and drug history. I review it with you and recommend the right level of care.
How long does a SAP evaluation take?
A SAP evaluation is usually completed in one comprehensive session, with follow-up as the return-to-duty process requires.
Do you take insurance for assessments?
DOT SAP evaluations and the initial comprehensive assessment are private-pay and not billed to insurance. Some substance use sessions can use insurance through Headway.
